Fall 2025 Action Network to Elevate Teaching (ANET) Convening
At the end of June, Elevate Teaching concluded its Phase 2 contract with PELSB to implement the Teacher Marketing and Outreach Campaign. Elevate Teaching is grateful for continued support of PELSB and partners to continue the work in the next phase of Elevate Teaching (Phase 3).
The convening is a community space to learn, share and spark actions. Everyone is welcome, even if you haven’t joined previous events. Please help us spread the word about this convening— feel free to share this invitation!

Come together with BIPOC educators from across Minnesota to connect, recharge, and celebrate the work we do. This gathering is a space to honor our journeys—whether you’re just starting out, preparing to enter the classroom, or already shaping the future of education.
This event is designed to support you, offering free resources and meaningful opportunities to connect with fellow BIPOC educators in a space that uplifts and affirms who you are.

2025 National Community Schools and Family Engagement Conference
The Institute for Educational Leadership is proud to host the 2025 National Community Schools and Family Engagement Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota! This national conference brings together people from across the country who believe all children deserve a safe place to live and opportunities to learn and thrive. Inspired by our theme: Rising Together: Powering the Movement, the conference catalyzes collaboration, action, and a renewed commitment to transforming our practices, partnerships, and systems.
With Family Engagement, Community Schools and other Whole-child strategies front and center, participants (parent and youth leaders; school and district leaders; community organizers; elected officials; Community School coordinators and initiative leaders; education, and health system professionals; early childhood educators; university partners; disability advocates; researchers; and more) will sharpen their skillsets to lead collaboratively, implement effective strategies, and strengthen family-school-community partnerships. Maria-Renée Grigsby, Ed.D., is licensed in elementary and special education and has taught across all educational levels and settings—from urban classrooms to rural schools, and from birth to post-secondary education. Her journey has included roles as an assistant professor, Director of Recruitment & Retention at a Minnesota university, and now as the Culturally Responsive Systems Supervisor for COMPASS at the Minnesota Department of Education.
A respected equity trainer and consultant, Maria-Renée is deeply committed to building culturally responsive and culturally responsible systems that serve every student. She is also a proud mother to one amazing and brilliant daughter.

2025 Diversity in STEM Education Summit

Join us for the 2025 Diversity in STEM Education Summit from March 21 – 23, 2025 in Washington, DC, where we’ll come together to tackle underrepresentation in STEM teaching. Since 2017, the Smithsonian Science Education Center has hosted this annual summit, helping over 130 teams develop strategies to create more inclusive hiring and retention practices that increase the representation of educators from diverse backgrounds in STEM classrooms.
About the Diversity in STEM Education Summit
The Smithsonian Science Education Center’s Diversity in STEM Education Summit: Building a Coalition for Attracting and Retaining a Diverse STEM Teaching Workforce is part of an ongoing initiative that began in 2015, aimed at transforming the STEM teaching workforce through systems change. The Summit focuses on implementing systemic change in schools, districts, and on the state level. By participating in the Summit, you’ll contribute to a nationwide effort to diversify STEM education while gaining the tools and support to drive change in your community.

What to Expect
At the Summit, 15 teams of educators will work as change agents, crafting action plans to attract and retain STEM teachers from underrepresented populations at school, district, and state levels. Each team is paired with a mentor who offers guidance and expertise, ensuring teams have the support they need throughout the next school year as they implement their strategies.

Become a Mentor
Mentors bring rich experience from various roles in STEM and education, such as nonprofit leaders, veteran teachers, and university professors. They support teams by providing valuable feedback and guiding them toward achieving their goals. Interested in being a mentor?
Mentor applications are due Friday, December 13, 2024, at 5:00 PM Eastern.

Achieve Twin Cities EDTalks
Join us for another EDTalks event as we continue to explore our season theme: Big Challenges, Realistic Solutions. This event will feature Dr. Rose Chu, Joshua Crosson and Haben Ghebregergish who will discuss the reasons why the teaching profession continues to lack diversity and what we can do to fix it.
Founded in 2002, EDTalks is a dynamic happy hour event that raises public awareness of critical topics and strengthens community engagement and advocacy with and on behalf of our young people. It also provides a platform for creative leaders to showcase innovative ideas, share successes in their work, gain insight and feedback from colleagues, connect with community audiences and identify growth opportunities.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with complementary hearty appetizers and drinks available for purchase. Our program begins at 6 p.m. sharp with our two EDTalks presentations, followed by Q & A that allows opportunities for audience conversation with our presenters and deeper dives into the evening’s topic.
